Civil Service Fast Stream

Civil Service Fast Stream

The Civil Service Fast Stream is a talent management programme for graduates who have potential to become leaders of the civil service. It’s consistently ranked in the top 10 of The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers.

The UK Civil Service supports the government of the day, by helping them develop and carry out their policies and administer the public services for which they are responsible.

With over 412,000 employees, the UK Civil Service is one of the largest in the world. Because our organisations deal with so many different aspects of government, civil servants work in an enormous variety of roles. We’re politically impartial. Our workforce includes people who deliver crucial services direct to the public across the UK, from face-to-face Jobcentre staff to supporting the Head of National Security.

It is important that the Civil Service Fast Stream is diverse and reflects society, the Fast Stream enables graduates to make an impact on people’s lives in the UK and the world. You could work in areas including education, the economy, foreign affairs, defence policy, health, the environment and many more.

Responsibility will come quickly and you’ll get a wide range of experience in a very short space of time. An intensive three or four year training scheme is offered, which combines moving between departments to get a taste of the impact you can make across the government. The programme enables you to join the Civil Service at HEO Grade, and promotion is expected quickly.

There is also an Early Diversity Internship Programme open to students in their first year of University and the Summer Diversity Internship Programme for students in their penultimate year of University. To find out more about these exciting internship opportunities, have a read of the new Civil Service diversity brochure.
